Caregiver Training & SupervisionWhether in our community or within the private homes of our clients, a Providence trademark is our high standard of caregiver training and supervision. Our caregivers are trained to observe and report changes in a client’s health and behavior early, keeping family, physicians or social service providers informed throughout the tenure of care. All our caregivers must meet the same standards and possess the same qualifications as caregivers employed at our residential care community, Providence Place. Each member of our care staff has completed a minimum of 40 hours of additional training including cognitive engagement exercises, monitoring and documentation, cooking and safe transference. Because the majority of the residents in our community suffer from dementia, all of our staff is trained to care for seniors with at various stages of memory loss. Knowing how to redirect a person is part skill and part compassion for who that person is. Having insight into what that individual did in their profession or things that they did in their life, prior to illness, helps to calm them during times of distress. Many, especially in early stages of memory loss, are paranoid, combative, and agitated. This often stems from the fear of changes that are occurring- such as forgetting things one ought to know, losing things, getting lost, etc. A caregiver can help alleviate anxiety with skills and compassionate understanding.
