Medication Management

At Providence, we believe in minimizing the use of drugs whenever possible- specifically those that may negatively impact a person’s emotions, moods and behaviors.

Our staff works together to look for alternative ways to handle challenging situations.  Combativeness, for example, may be caused by a urinary infection, and with treatment the behavior, along with the infection, can be resolved. 

Even with the reduction of medications, however, there are some that are routinely a part of caring for the elderly.  Trained staff at Providence coordinate medications, refill prescriptions, and communicate with prescribing physicians.

In addition to carefully monitoring medications, we support our clients by accompanying them during their physician appointments.  In this way, we are able to report our observations and to receive instructions directly from the physician.  By acting as advocates for our clients, we assist them in receiving the best medical care possible.
