QUALITY OF LIFE THERAPEUTIC ENRICHMENT PROGRAM —
THERAPY FOR THE
BODY AND SPIRIT
Many families are surprised to find that although
their loved one has lived alone for many years, they are willing and
anxious to be around others. For
some, it means actively or passively attending group activities, such
as “I’m
A Poet”, “Singing-In-The-Rain” and “Mind
Yoga”. For others, it means time talking one-on-one. Either
way, we encourage all of our clients to become a part
of the Providence Community.
The people who reside inside the doors of Providence
Place are as varied as those outside. Physical capability, memory
impairment, and personal preferences define each as an individual.
Providence’s Quality of Life activity program is carried out by
our professional Recreation Therapist and a team of caregivers to allow
all residents in our community to experience each day fully and with
purpose. Our myriad of group and individualized activities aim to nurture
and develop a balance between Mind, Body and Spirit for all members of
our community.
We pay great care to each individual’s past interests and experiences
to develop a program that engages them. Some of our residents love arranging
flowers freshly picked from Providence’s beautiful outdoor GARDEN,
while others anticipate a trip to the local HAMBURGER JOINT. Weekly manicures
or hair and make-up sessions are eagerly awaited by some residents who
enjoy a little PAMPERING, while others just want to play a game of cards
or PET our resident dog or relax to the sound of Water and our unique
LAVENDER RELAXATION treatment. EXERCISE and STRETCHING sessions are tailored
to the needs of every person to complement their unique needs and abilities.
Many of our programs are specifically designed to engender a sense of
community and foster interaction. Shared meals amongst neighbors evoke
a conversation about families, world travels, or favorite pastimes. Our
MUSIC and ARTS & CRAFTS programs bring everybody together to enjoy
a fun afternoon and allow creativity and individuality to shine. One
of our favorite MEMORY ENHANCEMENT activities brings residents together
in the garden for BIRD-WATCHING while looking at name cards of birds
to stimulate the memory and hearing. BAKING bread to evoke smell evolves
into a tea party with fresh bread and jam to stimulate taste.
Creativity and individuality are the hallmarks of our Quality of Life
activity programs. Our unique understanding of the individual and a willingness
to explore new possibilities encourages each client to experience their
day fully and with purpose. |
